Don't miss Design Plus 2015 at Ambiente

The Design Plus Award 2015 at the upcoming Ambiente in Frankfurt distinguishes 22 products and product ranges, which receive awards for their excellent handling, sustainability and innovative technology

The perfect interplay of innovative design and functionality, the Design Plus Award 2015 distinguishes 22 products and product ranges by 14 companies from eight countries. The award-winning products will be presented at Ambiente, the leading international trade fair, in a special show from 13 to 17 February. Among the winners are companies such as Alessi, Emform, OXO International, Kahla or Stelton.

“The Design Plus Award offers dealers and consumers a very good method of finding their way around among the diversity of offers. Formal elegance, design quality, functionality and sustainability are the criteria used in deciding who is to receive the awards. This year, the accolades go to products whose functions are especially innovative. The international competition pays tribute to the creativity involved in rethinking everyday products and improving the way they function”, says Nicolette Naumann, Vice President Ambiente/Tendence.

The ‘Form and Life Initiative’ has presented this internationally recognized award for 32 years. Its sponsors are Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH, the German Design Council (Rat für Formgebung – Frankfurt) and the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (Deutsche Industrie- und Handelskammertag – Berlin).

Majority of the prize-winners are from the Table and Kitchen products segment
The largest number of prize-winners come from the Table and Kitchen products segment. Here, for example, Amefa Stahlwaren GmbH is offering an innovative solution for people with restricted hand motor control. The ‘Integrale’ cutlery set was developed with a great deal of sensitivity by the designer Isabel Heubl after she had studied a wide variety of symptoms and the overall problems involved in geriatrics. Their external aesthetic appeal and proven functionality meets all the conditions that enable people with motor control problems to take their meals independently and without any problems.

Smart, stylish and functional is the name of the game with ‘To Go Click’ from Stelton. Elegant design and functionalism are united in one vacuum flask. Despite the lid, the liquid comes out at all angles. This is ideal, as nothing can spill anymore and the 360 degree mechanism makes drinking out of it feel as if it has no lid.

Does not slip, does not scratch, does not rattle! The ‘Magic Grip’ from Kahla/Thüringen Porzellan GmbH covers items of porcelain for cooking, baking and preparing food. The silicone layer on the base means that they are much less liable to slip when kneading, stirring and serving.

Along with the design, the material and finish of the side by side products are selected with great care. Made of ash and equipped with a horsehair brush, the broom combines two functions into one: The broomstick is attached by a magnet, which means it can be quickly pulled out of the broom and transformed easily into a hand brush.

A marketplace full of innovative products
In terms of its design, the special show in Galleria 1 takes its cue from the marketplace. The interior designer Petra Strickstrock (Raumansicht) creates a set that looks like market stalls, thus allowing innovation and superb design to team up with the original idea of Messe Frankfurt as a fairground.
