Decorex 2014 seminar programme announced
The highly anticipated Decorex seminar programme is back this month with stars of the design world such as Sophie Conran, Anouska Hempel, Francis Sultana and Christopher Jenner taking centre stage
Curator of the Future Heritage installation, celebrated journalist and broadcaster, Corinne Julius, will be hosting two talks during the show; one on how to commission contemporary designs on Sunday and the other on how to get the very best from the industry’s makers on Wednesday. In addition she will be hosting Collecting for the Future, a talk at the V&A on the 16th September, as part of the London Design Festival. While freelance style writer, Charlotte Abrahams, will be presenting a talk on Monday entitled Designing Craft, Crafting Design which will question if the division between craft and design is still relevant today.
On Tuesday, a panel of experts joins Lucinda Bredin, Arts Editor at The Week, for The Art of Interiors talk, as they discuss and share their advice on how to create interiors that enhance your personal art collection.
To celebrate this year’s theme, the 300th anniversary of the Georgians, renowned architect, Nigel Coates (pictured), will be speaking on Sunday about the future of Georgian Britain with Nick Silver, owner and dealer of 21st Century Jewels. On Tuesday, Giles Kime of Homes & Gardens will be in conversation with renowned designer, William Yeoward, exploring how William takes inspiration from the past to create something exciting and relevant today.
A series of talks on hotel design includes Kit Kemp of Firmdale Hotels on Sunday in conversation with Fine Cell Work, Decorex charity for this year. On Tuesday, architect firm, Archer Humphryes, will look at how three hotels have brought back beautiful civic buildings into use, including the fashionable Chiltern Firehouse hotel, and Hassan Abdullah (left) from design trio, Les Trois Garcons, will talk on Wednesday about their celebrated designs and the challenges the trio has faced in The Making of a Brand.
Other highlights include a debate on America’s definition of Luxe; Sue Crewe, editor of House & Garden in conversation with Ben Pentreath, Nina Campbell and Victoria Meale and an in-depth colour trend report hosted by Global Color Research. They are joined by a host of other insightful seminars that feature Dan Hopwood, Kate Burnett, Fromental with Russell Sage Studio, Sara Cosgrove, Mathew Dalby from YOO, and Angus Gibson of Symm with Lulu Lytle of Soane Britain and Rupert Bevan.
