Housewares Design Award deadline extended

The deadline to enter the 2017 Housewares Design Awards has been extended to November 4, 2016

The deadline to apply for the 2017 Housewares Design Awards has been extended to November 4, 2016. Winners of the Housewares Design Awards will be announced at a special celebration on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at the Las Vegas Market.

The Housewares Design Awards – the premier awards program focused on housewares design innovation – were founded in 2003 by HomeWorld Business to honor supplier efforts within the industry to create new ways to improve everyday living, and recognize excellence in 12 core housewares categories. The Las Vegas Market will host the Awards for the first time in 2017, as an extension of its overall growth strategy for gift-oriented housewares, tabletop and specialty food.

“Las Vegas Market continues to intensify its commitment to the gourmet category, with steady increases in both gourmet-focused leasing and attendance,” says Dorothy Belshaw, president of Gift & Home Décor, International Market Centers. “We are pleased to host the Housewares Design Awards as both an extension of category growth, specifically, as well as our ongoing commitment to design excellence overall.”

Applications for the 2017 Housewares Design Awards will be accepted through November 4, 2016, in 12 product categories: Cookware & Bakeware; Countertop Cooking & Beverage Appliances; Countertop Food Prep Appliances; Countertop Kitchenware; Cutlery & Cutting Tools; Floor Care & Cleaning Appliances; Gadgets & Kitchen Tools; Home Environment Appliances; Home Organisation, Laundry Care & Non-Electric Cleaning; Home & Outdoor Décor; Personal, Health & Garment Care; and Tableware, Serveware & Beverageware. Products available to consumers from October 1, 2015, through September 30, 2016, are eligible. Details, and applications, are available online at www.housewaresdesignawards.com.

A panel of 12 judges (product designers, design educators, gourmet retailers and design editors) will meet in Las Vegas in November 2016 to test, review and rate the products based on four criteria: appropriate aesthetics; innovative materials and technology; user benefits (i.e., performance, comfort, ease of use, safety); and marketability.

Las Vegas Market will host an awards presentation ceremony on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, during which winners of the 2017 Housewares Design Awards will be announced and finalists will be recognized. A special display spotlighting the 2017 finalist and award-winning products also will be featured on C11 during the Winter 2017 Market.

Las Vegas Market identified the gourmet category as one of its strategic building blocks and launched the gourmet housewares presentation on C11 in Summer 2015. Since that time, the floor has rapidly expanded to its current 60% occupancy, with expected sold-out status to be achieved by the end of 2017. Beyond the concentration of nearly 300 gourmet lines on C11, the Las Vegas Market now boasts 400+ gourmet-related resources across its 40 showroom floors and in The Pavilions, which showcase gift and home temporary exhibitors. Notable among the Market’s gift-oriented housewares, tabletop and specialty food exhibitors are: Alessi; B by Brandie; Canvas Home; Chukar Cherries; Circa Asia; Design Imports; Eva Solo; Hammond’s Candies; Harold Import Company; Jura; Magenta; Match; Mepra; Michael Aram; Olivia Reigel; Pepper Creek Farms; Reidel; Sea Stones; Skyros Designs; and The Travers Group.

Las Vegas Market is the nation’s fastest growing gift and home décor market and the leading furniture marketplace in the western U.S., presenting 3,700+ gift, home décor and furniture resources in an unrivaled market destination. Las Vegas Market features thousands of gift, furniture and home décor lines, allowing for cross-category commerce among these industries. The Winter 2017 Las Vegas Market runs January 22-26, 2017, at World Market Center Las Vegas. For more information, visit www.lasvegasmarket.com
