NY NOW announces that applications for Juried Design Sections are now being accepted, with Accent on Design and HANDMADE applications due by September 30
NY NOW®, the Market for Home & Lifestyle, invites applications from designers, artists and manufacturers for its juried Accent on Design® section and HANDMADE® Collection, as well as two special “incubator” showcases highlighting emerging talents. Eligible participants will be part of the winter 2015 edition of NY NOW, January 31 – February 4, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
Accent on Design®
For more than 30 years, Accent on Design has highlighted a juried collection of nearly 150 established and emerging brands that deliver cutting-edge, design-focused merchandise across a variety of product categories. Presented within NY NOW’s HOME Collection, the juried Accent on Design section is a standard-setter for contemporary design in home and lifestyle products. Criteria for acceptance by the Accent on Design selection committee include: original, creative and authentic product design; new and innovative use of materials; products that address and solve problems; consistent and continuous new product creations; a focus on contemporary design (as perceived by the jury); and functionality. Accent on Design applications will be accepted through Tuesday, September 30, 2014. The online form is available at www.nynow.com/Exhibitors/ExhibitSpaceApplication.aspx
A+: The Young Designers’ Platform
Within Accent on Design, A+: The Young Designers’ Platform introduces the work of emerging designers, selected on the basis of design concept, creativity and originality. A+ provides new talent an exciting opportunity to showcase concepts, prototypes and finished products to the wholesale marketplace. Applications for A+ will be accepted only from design students, recent graduates and young companies in business for one year or less. A+ applications will be accepted through Tuesday, December 2. For nearly 30 years, NY NOW’s HANDMADE collection has offered buyers an extensive selection of handcrafted items across a variety of categories such as tabletop, ceramics, textiles, home décor, jewelry and apparel. The HANDMADE collection is presented in two distinct sections: Designer Maker, which showcases 340 limited-production makers across all categories and media; and Global Design, which presents a selection of 150 international craft resources with a focus on strong design blended with traditional techniques and quality workmanship, as well as an emphasis on community building through artisan workshops. Criteria for acceptance by the juries include a developed line of unique and original work; authentic design, and quality craftsmanship. HANDMADE applications will be accepted through Tuesday, September 30, 2014. The online form is available at www.nynow.com/Exhibitors/ExhibitSpaceApplication.aspx.
Emerging Makers, located within HANDMADE®, introduces the work of emerging craft designers and makers selected on the basis of unique and original work, authentic design and quality craftsmanship. As a showcase for fresh new resources, Emerging Makers provides an exclusive opportunity for new makers to introduce a selection of their products to the wholesale marketplace. Applications will be accepted only from designers who have been in business for one year or less and artists entering the wholesale marketplace for the first time. The selection committee will review applicants for unique and original design, process and market readiness. Emerging Maker applications will be accepted through Tuesday, December 2.
