NY NOW preview: Peetal
At the upcoming New York Home, Lifestyle + Gift Show, set to take place August 21-24, Peetal New York will showcase its unique metalware tabletop pieces
At the upcoming NY NOW, set to take place August 21-24 at the Javits Convention Center, Peetal New York will showcase its contemporary Indian-inspired metal tableware.
Peetal, which literally means Brass in Hindi, is an ancient alloy made from a combination of copper and zinc, its existence dating back to the 2nd millennium BC in western India, when it was predominantly used to make utensils thanks to its natural antimicrobial properties.
At Peetal New York, British designer Reema Kohli has brought this ancient alloy bang up to date with her contemporary designs. She fuses brass with a variety of materials, such as aluminium, nickel, stainless steel and semi-precious stones, to deliver decorative yet functional home and tabletop accessories, all handmade in a factory in India, which also manufacturers luxury brands like Tom Dixon.
Her latest tabletop collection, inspired the lotus flower, is made from brass, aluminium, nickel and semi-precious stones and features 38 hand-crafted products, including vases, candle holders, trays, centerpiece bowls, napkin rings, wine bottle stoppers, salad servers, photo frames, coasters and cake stands.
