See Reiko Kaneko at Hotelympia
Discover this British-Japanese designer’s contemporary fine bone china tabletop products at the London show
Reiko Kaneko is excited to be exhibiting at Hotelympia for the first time from Monday 28th April - Thursday 1st May 2014. Hotelympia is the largest UK foodservice and hospitality exhibition.
The British-Japanese designer, who is on a mission to prove that the fine bone china industry has moved on from its twee reputation, has pushed the traditional boundaries of fine dining tableware to create simple sculptural forms, often inspired by modern city architecture, that highlight the exquisite beauty of English fine bone china.
Her tabletop range, including plates, serving vessels, bowls and decorative pieces, is not about decoration but rather the uniqueness of form, respect for the quality of material and the pure pleasure of presenting them on a table to showcase the food. She is enthused by the ingenuity of the fine dining industry and this has inspired some theatrical presentation ideas.
Fold Bowl and Plate
The paper-like Fold Plate and Bowl are the result of early experimentations with simple white card. Being trained in origami from an early age, Reiko Kaneko wanted to combine the light, almost curling quality of paper with the unmoving strength of fired ceramic. The balance between bold, sharp folds and the natural, organic material quality of paper creates a surreal result.
Samples and One Off Pieces
In an exciting new development, samples and one off pieces are now available to purchase via the Reiko Kaneko website. All of the samples are unique and have their own story to tell. They bear the marks of the key creative decisions that are made during the glaze development process. All samples are signed by Reiko Kaneko adding further provenance and individuality to each piece.
A remarkably popular design, the Arctic Jug is now available in a large size, ideal as a pitcher for summer drinks and cocktails. The Arctic Jug is another origami-inspired design with its clean angular form and sharp pointed spout. The striking pieces are designed to compliment each other and add an artistic, sculptural element to the dinner table. Complete the look with a set of Arctic Tumblers.
Petal Bowls and Plates
The Petal design exudes elegance and finesse. An angular base tapers off into a delicate lifted point to resemble a flower petal. Each piece looks stunning alone or several can be arranged into beautiful displays by pointing them inwards or outwards. A complete set of six can be arranged to form a flower in the centre of a table. The Petal range was made for the creative spirit of chief table-dresser or chief chef and is testament to how great design and imaginative presentation ideas can heighten the dining experience.
