Kahla secures 70th prize for good design

Kahla's 'TAO' Collection has been recognised for its 'green' qualities by the company winning no less than its 70th design award.

The Green Good Design Award is a new extension to the already existing Good Design Award, which have been given by the Chicago Athenaeum for many years.  The prize is dedicated to projects which successfully combine areas of design and ecology.

Since the introduction of the 'TAO' collection in September 2008, Kahla also unveiled their Pro Eco Sustainability Strategy. The company say that ever since they were taken over by the Rathiel family in 2000 and took a strategic new direction, investment in innovative and environmentally friendly technologies has been at the fore.

Due to a consistent improvement of the production processes and the constant expansion and restructuring of the factory premises, the Thuringia-based porcelain manufacturer Kahla has succeeded in saving millions of litres of drinking water, thousands of kilowatt-hours of electricity as well as thousands of kilograms of carbon dioxide every year. Since April 2010, part of the energy supply has been generated through an on- site solar panel system, installed on the roofs of the production halls.
