Thousands flock to Selb for annual porcelain market

Selb, known as Germanys’ 'city of porcelain’ saw more than 30’000 visitors flock to the region during the latest of its annual porcelain festival this August.

Held every year usually on the first Saturday of the month, the festival allows the city’s many porcelain makers to take to the streets and sells the wares they no longer need.

Generation after generations of porcelain makers based in the town are given the opportunity once a year by the town council to rent space on the sidewalk in the city centre on the day and sell their excess wares to visitors.

The event, now in its 18th year has grown to be Europe’s largest porcelain ‘flea market’, with more than 300 vendors taking part.
