Tributes paid to former Wedgwood boss Sir Arthur Bryan

We were saddened to hear the news that the Tableware Industry has lost another of its well-recognised figures, Sir Arthur Bryan.

Tributes have been paid to 87 year-old Bryan, who has been considered to be one of the most pivotal figures in Wedgwood's history after becoming the first non-family member to becoming managing director and chairman of the world-famous brand. He was knighted in 1976 for services to export.

Sir Arthur joined Wedgwood in 1947 and succeeded Josiah V as chairman in 1967.

He also served as Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire from 1968 to 1993.

Sir Arthur, who lived in Barlaston, passed away on Friday 11th February after a short illness. He is survived by his wife Lady Bryan and his children Lawrence and Linda.
