Royal visit to kick start regeneration in Stoke
The Middleport Pottery site is drawing yet more big names on site, with next week seeing a proposed visit from a member of the British Royal Family.
The home of Burleigh in Stoke-on -Trent will host HRH The Prince of Wales on Tuesday 25th October to officially launch the restoration and regeneration of the last working Victorian pottery in the UK.
The visit by His Royal Highness will be hosted by The Prince's Regeneration
Trust which acquired the Grade II* listed pottery in June.
The launch is the official beginnings of the project, which will see production continued on site, with the associated building regenerated. A planned new visitor centre on site will draw new jobs and it is hoped it will boost the hub of excitement coming back to stoke around the potteries and the areas distinct heritage.
The Prince will officially launch the project when he arrives at Middleport's gates and meets long-serving members of staff. He will then go on a tour of the pottery and see the various stages of pottery production, including moulding, casting and finishing.
It is hoped that the regeneration of Middleport will be a major impetus for further economic regeneration in Burslem and Stoke. The visit to the pottery is part of a two-day tour by The Prince of Wales championing regeneration projects led by The Prince's Charities in Teeside, Burnley and Middleport.
