Alessi presents design contest winner
Designed by younger Italian designer Luca Galbusera, this textured bowl is the winning project of the international design contest Concrete in Design
Designed by young Italian designer Luca Galbusera, ‘La Trama e l’Ordito’ is the winning project of the international design contest #Concrete in Design, a competition sponsored by Alessi and Italcementi, one of the world’s leading construction material companies.
Launched in October 2013, the contest was open to all designers interested in exploring new forms of expression using i.design EFFIX, the latest generation high performance material developed by Italcementi. It wanted to create a substance that could be used by the design world that would be suitable for decoration and different design requirements. The substance is composed from cement, sand, alkali-resistant fibreglass and other additives, combining the durability of cement with the pliability of plastic.
Focusing on the concept of artisanship, Luca Galbusera who studied at the Design Faculty of the Milan Politecnico, has expertly used industrial production to create a bowl that is characterised by its texture, bringing to mind skilful embroidery and weaving.
The competition was launched on desall.com, a web platform dedicated to the conception and development of new products in the industrial, craft and interior design fields. Young designers were asked to create a table centrepiece for outdoor use by using the new applications and potentials offered by i.design EFFIX.
The winner was announced in December 2013 and in February 2014 partcipated in a workshop organised by LPWK Design Studio by Laura Polinoro, who has been working with Alessi for years for the organisation of design workshops all around the world.
The new project is, again, an example that shows the true nature of Alessi: a company that explores new boundaries, that spends time researching and experimenting and works with new materials.
