Alessi at Clerkenwell Design Week
Design brand Alessi has partnered with long-term partner Zaha Hadid Design to present a special display for Clerkenwell this week
To celebrate their ongoing long-term collaborative relationship, design brand Alessi has partnered with Zaha Hadid Design to present a special display of new and classic design objects by Alessi at Clerkenwell Design Week, which takes place this week, Tuesday May 19 to Thursday May 21.
The installation at Zaha Hadid Gallery will include Piero Lissoni’s new Tic15 watch collection, Nigel Coates’s Big Shoom and Zaha Hadid’s designs for Alessi including the Niche in a limited edition white finish and the Tea & Coffee Towers. Additional pieces by other renowned designers will also be presented, including Condiment Set (pictured) by Peter Zumthor.
A panel discussion on design will also be held today (Wednesday 20 May) at 5pm between Piero Lissoni and Nigel Coates, and chaired by Max Fraser. Guided tours of the gallery will be hosted by Zaha Hadid’s team on Tuesday and Thursday evening.

Alessi and Zaha Hadid Design will host a discussion between Piero Lissoni and Nigel Coates, chaired by Max Fraser, at the Gallery. The conversation will explore how designers and manufacturers work together, creatively and technically, from concept through to the final product.

Nigel is a provocative designer of architecture, spaces and furniture, whose pieces have been realised by well-known brands including Gebrüder Thonet Vienna, Fornasetti, Slamp and Alessi. His studio in Bloomsbury combines architectural laboratory, showroom and gallery. Building designs include the Wall in Tokyo, the Hubs in Sheffield and the Geffrye Museum in London. His many architectural exhibitions include Ecstacity at the Architectural Association, Mixtacity at Tate Modern and Picaresque at the Triennale Design Museum. Books include Guide to Ecstacity and Narrative Architecture. He is RCA Professor Emeritus and Chair of the Academic Court at the new London School of Architecture.
In 1986, Piero Lissoni opened the Lissoni Associati studio together with Nicoletta Canesi, while 1996 saw the creation of Graph.x, a company dedicated to the development of graphics projects. With a staff of over 60, the work of the studio encompasses all aspects of architecture, interiors, industrial design and graphics projects from furnishing to lighting, from art direction to corporate identity and from catalogues to packaging for hotels, resorts, showrooms, shops, headquarters, trade fair stands, private houses and yachts.
Piero Lissoni’s projects for Alessi include the Tic15 watch collection, the PINA espresso maker and the Birillo bathroom accessories.
Max Fraser came onto the design scene in 2001 when he launched his first book, DESIGN UK (Conran Octopus). This early success enabled him to broaden the conversation around contemporary design across a variety of media including books, magazines, exhibitions, events and video. Max has carved a niche as a design commentator, delivering content, insights and strategy to the media as well as a variety of public and private bodies in the UK and abroad.
He is the author of several design books including DESIGNERS ON DESIGN, which he co-wrote with Sir Terence Conran. In 2009, he set up his own publishing imprint, Spotlight Press, which debuted with the sell-out publication LONDON DESIGN GUIDE.
Formerly the Deputy Director of London Design Festival, Max continues to consult for the Festival on its editorial content, including writing its official guide.
