Alessi celebrates Zaha Hadid in Milan
During Salone del Mobile, April 4-9, Alessi will explore its collaborations with Zaha Hadid in various spaces in Milan
Following the recent launch of the Forma cheese grater for Spring/Summer 2017, Alessi will further explore its various collaborations with the late award-winning architect Zaha Hadid during Fuorisalone 2017, the events and exhibitions that take place throughout Milan during the week-long Salone del Mobile, taking place April 4-9.
The windows of Alessi’s Flagship Store on Via Manzoni will be transformed with a special installation featuring highlights from the Pritzker Prize-winning architect’s work for the Italian design brand.
Zaha first collaborated with Alessi in 2003 on the Tea & Coffee Towers research project. This later led to the design and development of two equally powerful objects: the Crevasse flower vase and Niche centrepiece.
The installation will use these designs to highlight the Iraqi architect’s ability to render architectural form into small domestic objects. A similar display will also be included in Alessi’s space in laRinascente.
Alongside this special installation, Alessi has also partnered with the Icon Design Talks. Alberto Alessi will be part of the talks programme with a lecture exploring his vision of design.
Alessi (1921 - 2017) and the phenomenon of the Italian Design Factories, will take place on Thursday 6th April at Microsoft House. The talks will also celebrate the magical world of the big top, with a display featuring the five characters of the Alessi Circus collection by Marcel Wanders.
The whimsical collection will also be featured in an exhibition exploring the relation between analogue and digital at the Elle Decor concept store on Corso Venezia.
Milan Design Week also offers an ideal opportunity to explore Giro Giro Tondo: Design for Children at the Triennale Design Museum. Open from 1st April, the exhibition will reveal Alessi’s pop soul through its designs for childhood. Finally, Alessi will participate in the ‘L’Esercito di spazzole’ exhibition at Class Space, which will feature prototypes of brushes designed by Elena Salmistraro and produced with 3D printers. The installation is part of the White Young Innovative/White in the City programme, which will explore the nuanced beauty of the colour white in different ways throughout the city.
