Arzberg awarded German Design Award 2016
The Arzberg collection Serena Dark and Light has been awarded with the Special Mention at the German Design Awards 2016
The Arzberg collection Serena Dark and Light has now been awarded with “Special Mention” at the German Design Award 2016 in the category “Excellent Product Design“.
The distinction Special Mention is awarded to works whose design features particularly successful subaspects or solutions - an award that honours the commitment of companies and designers.
It is the first project of Italian artist Serena Confalonieri for Arzberg and her first work on porcelain in general.
“I started this project enthusiastically. It was really exciting to realise my ideas on porcelain and I am so happy about this award”, says the 35-year-old designer, who runs her own design studio in Milan.
The convincingly designed pattern of the new Arzberg décor inspired by the floral motifs of the 1920s caught the jury ́s eye. Created by a thin white line, Serena evokes the classic floral motifs of the Art Nouveau style, while the defining solid line is reminiscent of the Tiffany leaded-glass technique so typical of the period, where the contours and design of the stained glass were edged with thin metal strips.
The winners of the German Design Award 2016 will be announced next year at Ambiente (12th–16th February 2016) in Frankfurt.
The German Design Award is the premium prize of the German Design Council. Its goal: discovering, presenting and awarding unique design trends. Every year, top-quality submissions from product and communications design are awarded, all of which are in their own way ground-breaking in the international design landscape. The German Design Award is already one of the best-known design competitions in the world and is held in high regard well beyond professional circles.
