BHETA membership increases

The British Home Enhancement Trade Association's membership has risen to over 300 members in 2017

BHETA membership has risen to over three hundred members in 2017, with membership renewals well up on last year as well as the arrival of 23 new home improvement members and 11 housewares.

While networking and retail engagement, including forums, Meet the Buyer events and the continued success of Exclusively Housewares and Electrical, remain firmly at the forefront of BHETA’s raison d’etre, BHETA executive director for housewares, Will Jones is attributing the membership increase to the number of additional services and initiatives launched this year.

One of those is BHETA Bank, a collaborative initiative with bira, which offers members very competitive rates and special one-off deals such as car finance loans. BHETA has also increased its export focus, with the launch of a new export committee chaired by Tony Grimshaw from What More UK. As a direct result the first in a projected series of trade missions (this one to Slovenia) took place, as well as a forum event devoted to export. BHETA has also increased its lobbying role, working with the CBI on BREXIT, engaging with retailers who make unfair demands for additional contributions, or, as in the case of one very current issue, addressing the Government’s proposed legislative changes on the sale of knives and corrosive substances.

Another first has been the launch of the consumer-facing National Home Improvement Awareness Week, being held ahead of the key Easter period and designed to encourage householders to think about improving their homes and gardens through renovation, refurbishment and decorating. 

The initiative which is being driven by BHETA’s home improvement and garden executive director, Paul Grinsell is supported by thirteen of the industry’s leading supplier brands as well as retail and wholesale organisations. Paul comments, “It is already clear that NHIW has significant growth potential as a means of generating additional revenue and brand exposure for the members who get involved, as it targets consumers, who are the ultimate customer.
