Nominations now open for the prestigious bira Independent Retail Awards 2015
The British Independent Retailers Association (bira) is recognising the very best in our industry by rewarding individuals and retailers doing amazing things for independent retail. The bira Awards 2015 comprise four categories specifically targeted for independent retail:
• Independent Retailer of the Year
• Retail Employee of the Year
• Charitable Champion
• bira direct Supplier Awards
Independent Retailer of the Year
Independent retailers are encouraged to put their shop forward, highlighting innovation and forward thinking, to be in with the chance of winning the title of ‘bira Retailer of the Year’. The award will celebrate individual successes that set one retailer apart from the rest.
Retail Employee of the Year
For many retailers it’s not just the owner who has put in the hard work and effort, it’s the employees too. The Retail Employee of the Year Awards enable shop owners to celebrate the work of their employees. The awards in this category are Retail Employee of the Year and Young Retail Employee of the Year. Young Retail Employee focuses on the younger generation under the age of 35 who are leading the way for the future of retail. As is now traditional for bira’s young winners, the retailer awarded Young Retail Employee of the Year will receive a place at the prestigious Oxford Summer School – a reward worth up to £2,800.
Overall winner of the young employee award in 2014 was Ashley Gail from independent pet shop, Not Just Pets. Ashley said: “These awards are a great opportunity for people in retail to gain recognition and make a difference for the future. The owners of Not Just Pets saw potential in me and thought I had a chance to win and I was definitely tempted by the prize of a place at the Oxford Summer School; the owner had attended the Academy in 2011 and is still excited about it!”Charitable Champion
The bira Awards also celebrate retailers dedicating time and support to their communities and charities with the Charitable Champion Awards. These awards highlight those working in retail with passion and drive for supporting others and bring stories of heart-warming, personal journeys to the awards ceremony. bira is looking for members involved in supporting local causes, raising money for charity or who have made exceptional efforts to help others to enter these awards and be in with the chance of winning £1,000 for a charity of their choice.bira direct Supplier Awards
The fourth award category recognises bira direct suppliers who stand out within the independent retail industry. These awards include bira direct Supplier of the Year which is voted for by independent retailers. This is a fantastic opportunity for retailers to say a big ‘thank you’ to a supplier that has excelled in their support of independent shops.
The awards ceremony will take place on the evening of the bira High Street Conference on Wednesday 13 May 2015 at Chesford Grange Hotel in Warwickshire. Finalists will receive a complimentary place at the annual conference along with an invitation to the Gala Awards Dinner.
Independent retailers can enter as many of the awards categories as they wish, and the entry process is simple. For a full bira Awards pack, please contact Jo Cooper: email@example.com.
