Hudson’s Bay to open stores in Netherlands
One of the fastest growing department store retailers in the world, Canadian retailer Hudson's Bay Company is set to open 20 new stores in the Netherlands over the next two years
Hudson’s Bay Company, the successful Canadian retailer with leading banners including Hudson’s Bay, Lord & Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue, Gilt and Saks Off 5th, has announced that it is planning to open 20 new stores in the Netherlands over the next two years, creating thousands of new jobs in a nation recently hit by the closure of a major chain of stores.
The move will mark the first time North America’s oldest retailer has introduced its namesake brand outside of Canada.
“Our DNA is that we experiment and we try things,” says HBC’s chairman Richard Baker.
Renowned for its successful formula of driving the performance of high-quality stores and their all-channel offerings, Hudson's Bay says it will open both Hudson's Bay and Saks Off 5th stores in the Netherlands.
Hudson’s Bay say it plans to have 17 of the new locations run as standalone HBC stores, while the other three will operate under the Saks Off 5th banners.
The stores are expected to open in the summer of 2017.
Last month, the company announced plans to open 40 Saks Off 5th discount stores in Germany beginning next year, as well as buying the largest department retail chain in German and Belgium, Galeria Kaufhof.
