JIA wins two iF Gold Design awards

Taiwanese company JIA has secured the iF Design Award for its Prep, Rolling Mortar, and for its Charcoal Filter Bottle

JIA Inc., the Taiwanese design-led east-meets-west kitchen and lifestyle company was announced as the winner of a iF Design Gold Award 2017 in March for its Prep, Rolling Mortar.

JIA’s Prep Rolling Mortar joins 75 other winners to be crowned with the prestigious award, and becomes the only winner of this product category from Taiwan this year.

The innovative rolling mortar, the design of which was inspired by old-style tea grinders, and which delivers an innovative crushing method that allows for simpler and labour-saving spice grinding, was favoured by judges - over 5,575 entries submissions from more than 59 countries.

The iF Gold Award review mentions: “The rolling mortar is an ingeniously simple and subtle product, which will become a beautiful detail in the kitchen, and is also an ingenious tool conforms to ergonomic principles. The back and forth rolling avoids the need to violently crush food, while also preventing bits of ingredient from escaping. The oak material and smooth ceramic feel add to the remarkable qualities of this product.”

JIA secured a further iF Design Award with its Bamboo Charcoal Filter Bottle. Yet to be launched to the market, this travel bottle uses cutting-edge bamboo charcoal filer to make the water taste better, as well as a loose tea compartment to brew tea on-the-go.
