Home goods will be one of the top categories on the holiday shopping lists for customers of Macy’s, according to a survey of more than 5,000 shoppers at the department store retailer.
Nine percent of the survey respondents said they would be looking to spend on home goods for the holidays—the same percentage as those who intend to buy accessories such as handbags, wallets and scarves.
The survey also found that millennial Macy’s shoppers plan to spend more on home goods than shoppers aged 36 to 65 (13 percent versus 7 per cent).
The number one category Macy’s shoppers will be looking for will be clothing (39 percent), followed by gift cards (15 percent), electronics (12 percent) and toys and games (10 percent). Overall, Macy’s shoppers plan to spend an average of $1,211 on holiday gifts this season.
Also, 53 percent of Macy’s customers plan to do the majority of their shopping at brick-and-mortar stores, while 35 percent will shop more online by computer. Twelve percent said they will do the majority of their shopping using a mobile device or tablet.
