Staffordshire University student Jemma Moore wins the Portmeirion Group tableware competition Fired Up with her hot air balloon design

Staffordshire University undergraduate, Jemma Moore, has been unveiled as the winner of leading homewares company, Portmeirion’s, tableware design competition, Fired Up.
A third-year BA Hons Surface Pattern Design undergraduate, 22-year-old Jemma beat off stiff competition from more than 380 entries across the UK to secure a three-month paid internship with Portmeirion Group in Stoke-on-Trend, £1,000 in cash, plus the potential opportunity to see her winning tableware design manufactured and sold in leading high street retailers.
Group sales and marketing director, Phil Atherton, said: “The quality of entries was astounding. From the first stage, Jemma’s unique hot air balloon tableware design inspired by the Stoke-on-Trent landscape captured our attention.
“Following the success of the competition we will certainly be running it again and we hope to uncover more talented students,” said Phil.
Portmeirion’s Fired Up design competition tasked students with creating an original and innovative tableware surface pattern that would appeal to the modern homemaker.
