Portmeiron Group shortlisted for award
Stoke-on-Trent based homewares company, Portmeirion Group, is delighted to announce that it has been shortlisted in not one, but two categories, at this year’s Staffordshire Business Awards
The announcement that Portmeirion Group has been shortlisted in two categories at this year's Staffordshire Business Awards comes hot on the heels of the Group’s West Midlands Business Masters Awards win last week, where Portmeirion Group walked away with the prestigious Exporter Large Award.
Portmeirion’s rising star, Ben Foster, has beaten tough competition to reach the final for this year’s Staffordshire Business Awards Young Apprentice of the Year. Ben, who has been working for Portmeirion for over four years, has been commended on several occasions, over the last 18 months, for how well he has progressed and developed and is now considered a fantastic ambassador for the business.
The 22-year-old, who has just completed his engineering apprenticeship, had the pleasure of accepting the Investor in Young People Award, which the Group had the honour of being the first company in the country to be presented with earlier this year. He said: “To have been shortlisted for such a prestigious award is a great honour, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Portmeirion so far and it is great to know that I’m doing a good job. Of course it would be fantastic to win, I have my fingers crossed for 9 July.”
The popularity and demand for Portmeirion Group products overseas has also helped the Group reach the final for the Staffordshire Business Awards International Trade Award. Over the last year the Group has reported a 25% growth in emerging markets such as Taiwan, Pakistan, Thailand and India. In addition we have continued to expand the European network of customers whilst developing the already established markets of USA, Canada, South Korea and Australasia.
Phil Atherton, Group sales and marketing director at Portmeirion Group said: “To have reached the final in two categories is just fantastic. Ben has been outstanding over the last 18 months and is now a great ambassador for not only the business but for all young apprentices. I’m particularly proud to have also been shortlisted in the International Trade Award. Our international sales teams work extremely hard in developing first class relationships with distributors and key customers across the world. Their knowledge of the international market is second to none, I can’t wait for the winners to be revealed.”
Over the next few weeks, Portmeirion Group will have the opportunity to show the judging panel evidence to support its entry following a number of visits from the steering committee. The winners will be revealed at the awards ceremony on Thursday 9 July.
