Portmeirion announces display competition winners

Portmeirion Group reveals the winners of its recently-held window display competition celebrating the success of its bestselling giftware range

Portmeirion Group and Wrendale Designs have announced the winners of their exciting window display competition after a long and much-debated judging process due to the exceptional quality of all the entries from their UK stockists.

Hannah Dale, founder and designer of Wrendale Designs, Phil Atherton, Portmeirion Group’s sales & marketing director and Sue Marks, editor of Progressive Gifts & Home were tasked with judging the 28 entries and deciding on the six winners.

Due to the high standard of the window and in-store displays, it was unanimously decided by all three judges that, on top of the six winners, all participating stores should receive a prize and 3 extra stores would be highly commended.

Hannah Dale says: “What a fantastic response we had from our retailers! We had 28 entries and each and every one was absolutely brilliant. The standard was so high it made judging very difficult indeed, so much so that we decided to send a prize to all the entries. The six winning stores showed real creative talent. I was truly blown away.”

After much deliberation, the judging panel decided on the six winners: Heart of the Home, The Hollies Farm Shop, Bromley & Co, Webbs of Tenterden, Potters Cookshop and Prillys Pantry. They have been awarded £300 worth of Royal Worcester Wrendale Designs stock, £100 Portmeirion Group vouchers for the team who created the display and a ‘winner’ certificate.

The three highly commended stores are Daniel’s of Windsor, Elegance and The Granite House and each will receive 12 Royal Worcester Wrendale Designs mugs, £50 Portmeirion Group vouchers for the team who created the display and a ‘highly commended’ certificate. The remaining 19 stores will all be sent 12 Royal Worcester Wrendale Designs mugs.

Portmeirion Group sales and marketing director, Phil Atherton, was proud to say: “The standard of entries just goes to show that the retailers on our high streets have a huge amount to offer. Each and every store illustrated creative talent and commercial acumen. They are valued extremely highly by us. It also demonstrates how much Wrendale Designs is loved across the UK.”

The competition was also a success on social media with fans taking part in a ‘selfie contest’ using the retailer’s displays as background. With over 50 entries via Instagram and Facebook, the campaign received thousands of ‘likes’ with customers sharing their posts and showing their love for Royal Worcester Wrendale Designs and their local stores.

April Fletcher, from Prillys Pantry, one of the winning stores based in North Yorshire, said: “We are over the moon with our win, thank you. We are really lucky to have two huge windows to dress; our windows are always enjoyed by so many customers. Royal Worcester’s beautiful products in collaboration with Wrendale Designs was one of most enjoyable windows we have had the pleasure of creating.”
