Reiko Kaneko wins House Beautiful award
Confirming her place as a rising star in the design world, Japanese-British designer Reiko Kaneko has picked up the House Beautiful award for her Rin Collection
Reiko Kaneko confirmed her place as a rising star in the design world with her beautiful Rin Collection at the glittering House Beautiful Awards 2014 held at the Science Museum in London last week. Her award was presented by Jane Asher,
who was joined at the event by designers Sebastian Conran, Sophie Conran, Oliver Heath and Naomi Cleaver.
Reiko’s Rin Collection of bowls beat entries from industry giants such as Wedgwood, Alessi, Portmeirion Group and Sainsburys to win the gold award for Best Tableware or Cookware, chosen by an expert panel of judges, including John Rocha, Nick Munro, Vanessa Arbuthnott, Oliver Hrubiak and Clarissa Hulse.
House Beautiful Editor Julia Goodwin says: "This year, more than ever, our judging panel, which comprises the best in the business, has been impressed by the high quality of the candidates."
The Rin range of tableware takes its name from a brass Japanese alter bowl that when struck gives a lovely resonance. When you tap the Rin bowls or cups on a soft surface with a spoon, you get the fine bone china equivalent to this sound.
The Rin pieces are defined by a beautiful curved shape which makes them a delight to hold. The Large Shallow bowl is a particularly practical and versatile dish, suitable for individual portions or as a serving vessel at the table.
