Vietri announces new CEO

US importer of fine Italian handcrafted tableware Vietri has named Bill Roberts as its new chief executive officer

Vietri Inc., importer of fine Italian handcrafted dinnerware, flatware, glassware, linens, decorative accessories and garden urns, announced today that Bill Roberts has been named chief executive officer, effective June 8.

Roberts succeeds Vietri founder Susan Gravely, who will remain on the executive team and board of directors as chairman and head of product development.

Roberts brings more than 30 years of industry experience to the position, most recently as executive vice president & chairman of Belk’s northern division. His time with Belk awarded him various leadership positions including executive vice president, GMM, senior vice president, director of stores, and president of the southern division. Before joining Belk in 2000, Roberts served as senior vice president of May Department Stores and president and founder of Upstairs/Downstairs, LLC. Prior to that, he held the positions of vice president, buyer, and divisional branch store manager of Macy’s.

Bill’s passions include the Susan G. Komen Foundation, The American Heart Association, and his wife and sons.

“Bill shares the same commitment to family and well-being on which Vietri was founded. It is what Vietri is about – cherishing moments with family and friends and living life the way it should be lived, the way Italians live, with passion. We made the decision to bring Bill on board because he is the right person to take our business to the next level. It is with great pride that I welcome Bill to Vietri. I am looking forward to what is ahead for all of us,” says founder Susan Gravely.

A connoisseur of Italian culture and tabletop style, Susan Gravely, with her sister Frances and mother Lee, founded Vietri in 1983 after a family trip to Italy where they fell in love with colourful handpainted dinnerware on the Amalfi Coast. Vietri has grown from a small company representing one Italian factory to the largest Italian importing company in the American tabletop industry.

Vietri now serves a customer base of over 2,000 top specialty stores in all 50 states, plus Canada, England, Mexico, South America, Asia and Australia. Today, Vietri works with over 20 manufacturers throughout Italy. These manufacturers are involved in ceramic, stoneware, glass, stainless steel, terra cotta, and textiles. Vietri’s fashion-forward yet classic Italian collections combine the richness of European culture with a sophisticated American spirit.
